Different types of cleansers
Gel cleansers: Best for oily and combo skin
Cream cleansers: Best for dry, sensitive and mature skin
Foam cleansers: Best for oily, combo, acne prone and teenage skin
Oil cleansers: Best for dry skin, eczema prone and sensitive skin
Clay cleansers: Best for oily, combo and acne skin
Why different skin types benefit from different types of cleansers
Oily skin: Your main focus should be to purify your pores and remove excess oil and dirt. You want to use a cleanser where it helps regulate oil production and helps prevent future breakouts. Gel or Foaming cleansers would be best for you.
Dry skin: The last thing you want to do when you have dry skin is to strip down the natural oils in your skin. The cleanser you use should help hydrate your skin and retain moisture. Cream or oil based cleansers would be best for you.
Sensitive skin: You do not want to use products that cause burning sensation or stinging feeling because your skin is easily flushed. Creamy or foam cleansers would be best for you. You want to look for cleansers that have ingredients like aloe vera, willow bark, and witch hazel to calm your redness.
Combination skin: Try to stay away from alcohol based products. You experience oily areas and dehydrated areas. Gel cleansers would be best for you because it is gentle enough to treat dry skin and also help get rid of impurities and unclog your pores.
Acne prone skin: Your main focus is treating your acne and getting a deep cleanse. Medicated cleansers would be best for you to help get rid of bacteria. Salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and retinol would be great ingredients to have in your cleanser.
Hope this helps you break down the different cleanser types. Try to find products that are sulfate free, paraben free, and fragrance free no matter what your skin type is.
